Brisbane Area Rescue Network, or BARN, is a non-profit wildlife care organisation dedicated to returning sick, injured or orphaned native wildlife in optimum condition back to its natural environment.  Established in 2006, we have grown to well over 100 members, and annually we treat over 2000 injured/orphaned birds, and almost 1000 injured/orphaned possums, as well as kangaroos, bandicoots, snakes, lizards, turtles and many more animals.

BARN tries to make a difference by operationg under the motto Gestae Non Verba, which means: Deeds, not words.

Our objectives are:

  1. To raise orphaned native animals and successfully return them to the wild.
  2. To rescue and rehabilitate sick and injured native animals and successfully return them to the wild.
  3. To conform to the code of practise of the Nature Conservation Act.
  4. To educate all sections of the community in understading the needs of wildlife and preservation of their natural environment.
  5. To discourage exploitation of native animals and unnecessary development of any part of the natural environment.
  6. To participate in research into the development, behaviour and life history of native animals either during their raising in captivity, in conditions as close as possible to natural conditions, or in the wild, after their release.
  7. To encourage rational land use and proper planning of future development and use of the natrual environment and management thereof to ensure the provision of abundant release sites.
  8. To encourage dialogue between wildlife care organisations.
  9. To improve the professionalism of wildlife care.
